Less Is More

businessYou’ve probably heard the saying “less is more” it’s counter intuitive, but when it comes to tools to run your business, less IS more. Think about it, do you really want umpteen spread sheets to manage your time, clients, money in, money out, forward planning budget, website, etc etc, You will be much better off by using one or two pieces of personal trainer software that can do it all for you.

Using only one tool will help standardize things, which improves your productivity, as well as makes you look more professional.

Some of the better products out there do all of this from the one platform, it really does simplify the “back end” of your Personal trainer business, allowing you more time to train and inspire the people that are paying for your fantastic service.

There is no one size fits all, however there generally is a one size fits most needs and budgets. You want to stand out from the crowd, and ultimately it will be your training style and results that make the most difference, but don’t ever under estimate your image. You want your clients to know that when they deal with you they are dealing with a professional in all areas of their life. Having a standard will speak to people.

I understand when you are starting out that money is tight, and you can get by with your spread sheets and shoe boxes full of crap. Believe me when I say that it really is worth putting some time and money into getting set up properly. You will have a more efficient marketing strategy which will bring in more prospects, more prospects = more clients, which = more money. Not only that you’ll save time and money in the longer run. Lets face it, as much as you love what you do, you wouldn’t be doing it with out some financial reward. Zig Ziglar said something like “money isn’t that important, but it’s right up there with oxygen”

Why Should You

Why should you go to the trouble of getting hooked up with some personal trainer software?

Because as you know, or should know, the best way to build a strong personal training business is to get you clients fit and strong, to help them reach their goals, thats what it’s all about, its not about you, its about them. They have family and friends that they will rave to, about you, if you help them achieve their health and fitness goals. Thats the main aim. However you are also in business, and the best way to run a real, profitable business is to run it using systems, for everything. By buying yourself some software that has the systems for accounting, marketing and all the other tasks required to run your business, most of the hard work is done for you. This in turn will give you more time and energy to focus on getting your clients the results that they came to you for.

There are a lot of great personal trainer software packages on the market that can help you, for example, set up a  website that will give your clients 24/7 access to you. That can help you market and promote your business, track and manage client sessions and billing. Just by having a website you will look and be more professional, you will be able to handle more clients and keep those clients motivated and loyal. It will help build your brand and boost the retention rate. You will build a community by keeping in touch easily by email, newsletters. You can set up client profiles so that they can log in and track their results. You will also be able to leverage your business by giving access to thing such as workouts, nutrition plans, tips and guidelines.

Community is a big thing that is often overlooked, for most people the feeling of being a part of something drives them to achieve, they will be motivated and driven to play their part in helping the wider community reach their goals. It also adds that little bit of competition to it, many people thrive on competition, lifting heavier weights, getting a faster time or loosing more weight.

It’s for these reasons that I feel that buying a suitable personal trainer software package is vital for those who really want to make a difference in the personal training industry.

Welcome fitness friends

So now you’re a personal trainer, well done, you are on your way to living the life you choose. You’ve started a business that helps others achieve their goals, that’s an awesome thing to do. To serve many is a fantastic way to live.

I’m sure you all have your own unique reasons for starting down this path, but I’m sure most all of you love every thing about fitness, what’s not to love about feeling like you can take on anything, anytime anywhere.

How many of you became a personal trainer to become a business person? Maybe a few of you, but statistics show that most people who go into business for themselves do so out of a desire to “stick it to the man” “be their own boss” and most (myself included) choose a business that requires skills that they currently have i.e training people to be fit, loose weight etc. This is a great way to start, especially if you are passionate about what you are doing. However being the trainer is only one of the may jobs you’ll have as you develop your business, you’ll also be the bookkeeper, the marking person, the scheduler, the sales person, accounts payable, etc.

I’m sure you’ve spent money on a few things, maybe some focus pads and boxing gloves for your clients, some agility training equipment, fat measuring tools, scales just to name a few. Did you think about getting any software to help you run your business? To help track client details & schedule management, marketing, accounting? Results for your clients are fundamental to your success as a personal trainer, but you also need to be able to manage your business simply as possible, get these systems right early on and you’ll have more time to train more people = more $$$ in, and or more time for your own training and or sport, not to mention the all important family & community time.

There are some great products out there, and it’s my aim to help you sort through the noise so that you can find the products that best help your business grow. If you are serious about being a trainer and working for yourself long term, and building a successful business then you must use all the tools that are available to help you reach your goals, quickly and effectively. I’m here to help so lets get it on with it. In the next posts I’ll be reviewing a few software packages that will be fundamental tools in your business tool box.
